An overnight motor home stop close to Kinross
We’re often asked about convenient places to stay overnight after collecting one of our motorhomes, or on the way to drop it off again. Here are a selection, which include ‘wild camping’ spots and campsites:
The Witches’ Craig camp site. Awarded Scottish Campsite of the Year in 2015 by the AA. On the A91 outside Stirling, not far from the famous Wallace monument.01786 474 947. About 40 minutes away. Open mid March to end October.
Lethangie, Kinross. A small campsite in the town which has space for a small number of motorhomes. Usually open April to end October. 01577 863431.
Inver Mill campsite, 01350 727477, near Dunkeld. Open end of March to end October. The campsite is within walking distance of Dunkeld (or you could park at the railway station and use the underpass), a lovely town on the A9 about 50 – 60 minutes from Kinross, with great walking nearby, including the well known Hermitage. There are great cafes and restaurants, a fab deli and walks by the river from the town.
Glensherup – a forestry commission car park on the edge of the A823. Lovely hilly walks near here, and views of the reservoir from higher up. A wild camping site with no facilities (and no charge!). About 20 minutes from Kinross. As with all ‘wild’ camping, there are no guarantees (i.e. that work is not being undertaken there, overnight parking rule changes etc), and always park sensibly / sensitively and as unobtrusively as possible. Leave no trace of your stay.
Blair Castle campsite, near the A9, about an hour from our base. 01796 481263. An opportunity to see the fab Blair Castle (dating back to 1269). Open end February to mid November. A considerable number of spaces, but still advisable to book in advance.
